My daughter had something similar. Turned out to be something called Groupon, which looked for key word in your browser and turned then into advertising links. It took me ages to find it and get rid of it.

I run AVG, Adaware and Spybot on my laptop and only got a virus when I did something stupid. Even that was found by the afore mentioned.
