New a4 mallard in current guise
« on: August 24, 2013, 09:23:55 PM »
I was informed yesterday dapol plan to release mallard in its current guise with current numbers on, yet iv seen nothing about it other than the modelbahn north eastern black one.

Anyone know anything? As its supposably meant to tie in with mallard 75 it wouldnt look right without valances on.

Or is this to be the first release of the long promised , much delayed valenced version?

being a model of a static exhibit, it wouldn't matter quite so much if they didn't quite get it right mechanically first time!!! :uneasy: :-[  :P

Well i would only rebuy mallard if it was valanced version, along with bittern as i want my locos to look how they do now even though by the time i get to exhibition many will yet to have been renumbered i imagine

I can imagine the complaints that Dapol will get if they dare release either Silver Link or one of the other original 4 in the original colours !!!

Where did you hear this information? The only info i know of is that they are re-releasing the Mallard model they have already done (22 in Garter Blue without Valances).

Last I'd heard the valanced A4 was still sat in the "too hard to deal with now" box, probably due to clearance, or lack of it, around the valanced area.

With Dave leaving Dapol imminently I suspect that might be where it remains.

I did get asked by Dave to check the RCTS guide and other sources to ensure the Modellbahn Union Mallard was correct and at that time asked him to double-check Bittern's tender for the BR one (not least because I want one of these myself).  Prewar locos weren't discussed at that time, nor since.

Mallard appears to have lost its valancing at the time it was painted black in June 1942.  It ran as 4468 in black until 9/46 when it was renumbered 22, still in black.  It never ran as LNER 22 in blue (the only A4 to go straight into BR lettering), becoming E22 with BRITISH RAILWAYS on the tender when repainted blue postwar.

Hope this all helps.
Les
