Hello all,

Any ideas on a good footbridge model? The Kestrel one looks a bit too crude even for me (generally I actually like their stuff as being useful for those of us who glue our fingers together more easily than tiny plastic parts).

So what are the Ratio and P&D Marsh ones? The P&D Marsh 'SR concrete' one looks relatively simple, but wouldn't quite fit my layout concept (GWR/Western Region). On the other hand, their GWR one looks very fiddly. I like the look of the Ratio one, but it looks very grand for a small country station served by 2-4 coach trains.

Any other manufacturers I haven't considered? I've considered the Metcalfe card one, but feel it would look wrong alongside plastic buildings.

Ratio do a concrete one that doesn't look to fancy and is not to bad to put together. The NGS shop do a very basic one as well I think it's pre-assembled as well.

The ratio concrete one is distinctively Southern. It's a near exact match for the one at Wadebridge for example.

A lot of country stations wouldn't have had a footbridge if there was for example a road bridge at the same location. You'd be expected to go over the road bridge/use the level crossing.

N Brass Loco does a nice etched brass kit.  You can order additional sections and configure the stairs in different ways.

If you don't find a suitable footbridge there is always the option
of a foot crossing, especially if it is a small country station,
eg Horton in Ribblesdale , Corrour etc.

The Ratio covered footbridge is very good, but you will need a lot of patience. You'll need to paint some parts before you assemble. You get extras so as to add to the length which would make it span three track lanes (not Settrack though), although you would have to 'kit bash' a third smoke deflector as they only give you two.

You could say that your station was built by Southern but taken over by GWR (assuming your station is located in the South West, harder to do if you're modelling in North Wales or Birmingham, lol).

I could indeed! The thought had crossed my mind, and what with having two 73s and a Warship, plus a Union Mills 0395 0-6-0, I could always have decided I was modelling the Southern Region anyway!

In the end though I've gone with Agrippa's suggestion and built a foot crossing from plasticard. Had to cut down one of the platforms to fit the foot crossing, and even then, the footcrossing goes diagonally across the tracks, but I think that will make it looks more quirky. As/when it's done, I'll upload a photo.
