Isit just me that does this, but i get so far through building a layout and i will either see a video of an actual railway or someone elses railway and i suddenly want to build something like it?

Umpteanth time its happened to me....got so far building moorside...again and iv decided to scrap the whole idea because i saw a video of the west highland line and fancy building that as its so simple yet so beautiful.

Running along the lakeside with the huge mountains in the background, no stations to worry about no points even.

However i was thinking of dual track and not specifically set in scotland to allow me to run all my locos and stock of various regions lol

I assure you that you are not alone in this  ;)

Perhaps a way round it would be to do small modules e.g. one, two or three box files wide in the hope you will get it finished before something else takes over.

Of course another way would be to stop watching videos and looking at pictures of other folks layouts

cheers John.

It's not just you...

Layouts started: 22 (that I can remember)

Layouts finished: 1 (because I had promised to have it ready for an exhibition and didn't want to let people down.  I rushed the tracklaying and electrics, and it ran terribly.)

But this time will be different.  Honest.

I went through this just during planning, a folder with near on 50 different layouts that fit on a 6x1 board to prove it!

But it was an actual real location that made me decide on my layout I've now started, if I hadn't stumbled upon a website all about shirebrook depot I'd still be sat starring at xtrackcad now  :(

Definately not just you.

I can complete small modules but never get a proper layout done because I have another idea and realise everything has to change to incorporate it.

Modelling stupid small scale using T gauge track and IDl induction track. Still have  N gauge but not the space( Japanese Trams) Excuse spelling errors please, posting on mobile phone

NTrain

Some of us don't even get started..............

Look at me, I wanted to build a layout running Class 365 Networkers, several years later still not there.

What happened, N-Train happened and I started trying to make kits and still waiting to create my 365 (although it is close)

Thank goodness I am not the only modeller that changes his mind when building a layout, to be honest I was starting to think I was a bit weired (probably right) because I had trouble sticking to a theme.

In my own defense I have a good mate that tells me building a layout is a work in progress and things do change.

Two weeks ago I was planning to build an American Tram/Trolley layout so I watched loads of Youtube vids and did a load of research on the subject ( ah this is just what I needed, something different), that was until I watched a video of the "Black Country Living Museum" at Dudley, my goodness this is a modellers dream, Then I watched a video from the Beamish Tram Museum, well that was just what I needed a mix of trams and small steam locos, well combine the two museums with Trams, trains, Towns, Industry and a Coal Mine and walah a magic recipe for a great layout.

Well that really turned out to be a work in progress and frankly I couldn't give a toss how many times I change my mind so long as I finish up with something worthwhile

Definately not just you...

My wife just rolls her eyes now when I tell her I'm going to finish one.  but I have a solution.. build several! or build a fantasty one
that has everything you want in it!  (this can work, just look at Quinttopia for proof!)

I will finish at least one of the ones I'm working on! honest!

Surely it doesn't matter if it gets finished or not - it's about having fun and relaxing!
