Hi Guys,

Graham Farish's FNA nuclear flask wagons have the big numbers on top of the flask covers, which were applied to the real wagons a few (does anyone know how many?) years ago. My little layout is intended to be 'multi-era', so I need to remove the numbering from a couple of wagons.  Does anyone have any good ideas on how to get the numbering off without damaging the underlying paintwork?  I'd rather not repaint them if I don't have to!

Thanks,
Phil

I used the mrs' nail polish removal wipes. Look horrible when you start off the black ink/paint smudges everywhere. Keep at it with gentle rubbing and eventually they clean right off, have a very faint ghost of a 14 left on one, there's no sign left of 23.

did mine with T-cut and a cotton bud, oh and a bit of patience.

numbers came off and no damage to the paint underneath.

Thanks.  Still haven't plucked up the courage!

ozzie Bill.

I've used a track cleaning rubber and never had any problems. Bill.

The plot thickens...

I was about to start on this job, but then thought I'd check my facts.  I don't know when the roof numbers started to be used.  I do know that it was 'recently'.

#23 does not have the hazardous material diamonds - which were applied, I believe, when the wagons were refurbished in 2003.  So it should fairly definitely not have roof numbers unless I add the diamonds.

#38 has roof numbers and the diamonds - so I suspect I probably ought (?) to leave the numbers on.

#14 has black patches where the diamonds should be...  Does this mean that it is later than #38 and hashad them blanked out, or is it 'running empty' so they are (quite rightly) removed/blanked out?  In which case, presumably, it ought/might be meant to have the roof numbers??

Is this making any sort of sense??

The 'earliest' photo I have seen showing the roof numbers dates from 2007.
