Starter set DC and DCC trick missed?

Hello.

I been looking at the new starter sets that are now out.
Is it just me or has a trick been missed by not making them so they can standard sized boxes?
It looks like they have been custom made to suit the locos, wagons and coaches, but making them so they take standard boxes would have opened up the chance for mixing and matching?
