Happy day at last!

Well after a dreadful week things are looking up.

We had to have our older cat put to sleep earlier this week and was there when he went, he was 14 and had a good innings, and everything was put on the back burner. Lost my self in the forum and my mags to find a bit of solice.

SWMBO had found my cutting list on the side for my baseboard, and without me knowing had gone to Travis Perkins and ordered it for me and it arrived today  Then I realised that 6ft X 3ft is huge in N Gauge terms, eyes bigger than... I think I will just build what I have planned for the moment on one half of it and can extend at a later date (year 2020)

I was really excited and wanted to get out and get it all screwed together, and get some pics up, but its started to blow a gale out there, and didn't fancy chasing a piece of plywood round the garden.

I also received a parcel today I forgot about due to what had happened with the cat.

The said parcel was bought off ebay from a lady who never got round to building her layout. She put it up as a bargain box for a 99p start. I had a look at the picture, which wasn't very clear and noted a few pieces of track and a few turnouts I could use amongst some sealed packets of scenery etc.

I asked if she had a buy it now, as nobody had bid on it, she responded that she was hoping to get at least a tenner for it. Feeling sorry and knowing how much things cost to buy, I offered £30 of which she accepted.

Well it turned up today...and I was very surprised what was actually in it. All the unused and sealed scenery and packets of bits bobs, which will all come in handy, amounted to about £25 as the pricing labels where still on there.

Well I delved further in to the box and extracted:

1 X Peco turntable, boxed,  not used.
1 x Double level crossing, not used.
1 X Pack of couplers, sealed.
1 X Pack of crates, sealed.
3 X Packs buffers.
12 X L/H Turnouts, pristine condition.
4 X R/H Turnouts, Pristine condition.
5 X PL10e Point motors, unused with fixing plate.
1 X Fine tipped oiling pen, unused.
1 X Hook to change the point manually

Loads of spare track radius's (different radii) long, medium & short straight track sections, loads of small curves etc all in pristine condition, I could go on.

An there's still lots of small stuff I haven't mentioned.

As I have most of my track for my plan and just wanted a couple more turn outs, just in case. God knows what I am going to do with 12 L/H turnouts. No doubt they will come in handy for a later date.

The lady is also selling other stuff and has a couple of locos on there, one is an Arnold chassis and there is a an 0-6-0 coal board loco. As I still don't know my errr...from elbow regarding loco's here the link if anyone's interested:

So all in all a good end to what has really been a bad week.

Just cant wait to get something running, so I will soon be back with the dumb questions.

Glad things are looking up for you! As regards the surplus turnouts, why not list them individually on evil bay, the way prices have been on there lately you could sell 5 of them and get back your outlay for the entire lot! Good luck with building your layout, but I'm sure you'll look at the empty half of the board and want to fill it much sooner than 2020 Sounds like your good lady is a real gem, if you sell some of your surplus bits you can buy her some flowers or a meal out!

yeah she is a real gem and really supports what I do, definitely will take her for a meal and I was touched that she went out and did that for me.

I had thought about off loading some of the turnouts and getting back what I had paid, but as you say I will probably want to fill the baseboard sooner so I might hang onto them for a little while.

Cannot wait to get started now, and thanks to all the peeps on here.

Huge sympathy with the passing of the cat. I have 2 similar aged ailing dogs that are jostling to see who goes first. After that many years it must be a huge loss.

Nice to see that you have had a spot of modelling luck, and of course you have the support of Mrs Ian.

My sympathies for the loss of your cat

We lost our 18 year old Maine Coon cat 'Molly' over Christmas Eve night, and it doesn't matter how much you may be expecting it it really takes the wind out of your sails.

Good news with the baseboards though That's the sort of thing my misses would do to cheer me up too, we are among the lucky few I think

Thank Jerry and Sprintex,

Yeah we knew he was getting old, it was so sudden I expected to walk away from the vets with some antibiotics not any empty cat basket.

We had hoped we would wake up one morning and head passed in his sleep, even though it would have still been hard. I think what makes it harder is that I had to take the decision to end his life at that point...horrible feeling.

We have still got a younger cat, we are having no more. We tend to forget that we will outlive them and it is a huge loss. Sorry to hear of your loss Sprintex especially at Christmas.

I was really taken back when my boards arrived, and I am lucky, she never says a word about what I buy only "as long as it makes you happy"
