I've now received a second HST, and this runs much better than the first I had to return. The top speed still isn't as high as I'd like, but it's much more acceptable on this one.

Clearly the first unit I received was a dud 'Friday afternoon' job.

Cheers,
Alan

I have received my Dapol FGW "Dynamic Lines" HST.  I have a couple of coaches added too.  It runs well.  I oiled it a little as it says to and it has run round a couple of times.  It got quieter and now runs really well.  It has the look of the HST, the front of the cab is nicely done.  The top speed is good and it looks very cool at top speed going through the station.  The livery is a very bright purple, and I'm not sure the prototype was quite a vivid, but I may be wrong.  Besides when I get brave and weather it (never saw a clean one in real life, so that may be the difference) it will tone down a bit.  The separate coaches match the book set colours too.

All in all, it looks great and runs well.

Just waiting for the first class and buffet coaches now to make up a 2+8 set...

I decided to buy a GC set about a month ago and for a Dapol product it's very good indeed. Had no problems during running in, well that is if you don't count the standard Dapol noisy motor lol. Will certainly get hold of another set or two, got my eyes on a XC and EMT set :D Oh and the NMT of course

just a quick question..

which coupling do you find work best with these, rapidos or the buckeyes ?

if you alwasys run powered car to the front I don't expect there is much difference, but if you sometimes run them with the power car at the rear [as with a terminus layout], is there any advantage to either one.

cheers

I use the buckeye couplers on my 3 sets, I do have a problem with one dummy power car uncoupling due to a slight difference in coupling pocket heights.
I've still got to find a cure for this and if i find one I'll post it here.

Received my FGW HST yesterday.

Probably a silly question as not seen a real HST recently but only one of the white headlamps illuminated on the dummy. The red ones are fine.  Is this to simulate that one headlamp is brighter than the others or have I got a faulty train?

Not yet run powered engine yet as waiting for engine oil to arrive.

I believe that is correct that they run with one bright headlight and two red tail lights.  The single headlight happens on mine too.
