Hi all,

As house on market again and can't do too much to the layout re. viewings/mess etc, thought I'd make a train ferry something like this http://www.trainsofturkey.com/w/pmwiki.php/Network/TrainFerry

Mine is a bit Blue Peteresque as skint but looking OK so far.

The question is did/do they have the tracks on the 'sea gates' ie the ramp thing at the front/back of the ferry or always on the ramp at the shore/port.

Can't tell from internet photos. Seems port ramps but they are mostly Channel photos. I'm doing meditarranean so not much tide problems.

Thanks weave

PS,

The first picture on the right. Can't tell if ferry ramp or port ramp. Hope makes sense. Not a major thing but like to get things reasonably right.

Cheers weave

In my experience they have always had a linkspan which is part of the port installation. In tidal waters  there needs to be a way of creating a broadly level link between ship and shore which is achieved by raising or lowering the linkspan, or in some cases (such as originally at Dunkerque and Dover) by raising and lowering the ship in a lock. The linkspan is often a hefty bit of kit better suited to a land installation anyway. In Sardinia the linkspan was a port installation in 1991 when I was there.

shows the lifting gantry for the ramp on shore in one of the pictures under the Tyrsus heading.

Good luck with the project.

I have no idea about your questions.
But there is this little kit from Artitec that could be interesting for you.

One can see that the rail traks go up to the edge of the ferry.
Hope this helps.

Try searching images for the sicily train ferry. There are a good few pictures of the loading ramps which appear to be lowered/raised from the landside.
Is this what you are asking for ?

Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.
