Always exciting to get a(nother) new loco!  :claphappy:

I have Dapol's Hinderton Hall and Helmingham Hall which make me smile, lots.

Hope your new one does the same for you.

Wonder if they've sorted the route restriction out?

I have just picked up my Lanelay Hall and it is a great improvement over the original batch. Dapol's first batch of Halls were Curates Eggs. A fundementally good model that was let down at the last hurdle by a lot of silly detail and livery errors. I am pleased to report that Dapol appear to have listened to feedback and corrected all the faults that were identified in the first run.

Lanelay Hall is number 4937 and correctly has no fire-iron tunnel as one of the earlier locos. The wheels have been painted black rather than dull silver, continuing the standard that Dapol have been applying since the A4s. The route restriction disc correctly reports the Hall as a red-route loco. More subtle is the power letter 'D' applied to the disc. Perhaps best of all the livery which is this time correct for a GWR loco. The cabside lining carries up and over the cab-side windows. Also there is no shed plate (both the GWR liveried 2284s slipped up here).

The loco has not been run in yet but a quick trundle on the test track was impressive. Very smooth out of the box and much quieter than a lot of dapol tender engines (which tend to be a bit growly, particularly when new). I am going to run it in before I go any further. My new 2884 went up in smoke last week half way through the running in so I will keep my fingers crossed.

Sounds promising. Having stuck with my two Dapol Halls and sorted out most of their problems I can't justify another Hall. My 2884 is running perfectly but I've yet to remove the shedplate.

The BR one on the Kernow site also looks good. Great to see Dapol responding to feedback and correcting all the niggling errors with the first batch.

It looks to have a terribly bent footplate!

Cheers,
Alan

Just bought the BR one from Model Railways Direct in Portishead. Looks a much better shade of green and the black wheels are an obvious improvement. Running well so far too.

Good reviews all, ands its also good to hear that dapol are taking on board comments/feedback from us (the customers) and have ironed out all the issues/mistakes.
I look forward to seeing one of these in the for real.......

By the way, i was at Birmingham Moor Street Station the other day, and i notice they have a static GWR locomotive sat in one of the platforms.....

Can some one in the know tell me if this is a Hall Class please?
I was unable to get close to it to have a look?
