EMD DDA40X Centennial

Bachmann EMD DDA40X Centennial.

The biggest diesel loco in my collection at 7" long. They don't come any bigger!
Bachmann have produced three versions so far. Mine is the original single motor model with masses of room for fitting a decoder. You could fit six decoders under that hood.  :smiley-laughing:

The later versions all have two motors. The 2009 version has four flywheels and is DCC fitted. The RRP for the latest version on the Bachmann website is 80.25.
That's right, twin motors and a decoder for just over eighty cool quidlets!

Spookshow has a review of all versions on his website. The strange thing is, his one has problems with derailing and being noisy and mine doesn't?

The reasons why these massive double diesels came into being is explained on this Worldrailfans page. The DD35 is certainly an odd looking beast.

I have this one, same number and just checked it is one of the first ones also.
It runs ok considering what I paid for it on eBay, I thought it was going to be awful.
It is an impressive beast lol.

I know little about US railroads but Iam learning, can you provide a small potted history about this loco in real life please? Am I correct in saying that these Diesels took over the steam UP big boys on their duties?

Great pics, thanks for posting.
