Hello from Southeast Ohio, USA
« on: May 30, 2011, 06:45:28 AM »
Greetings all,

As you can see, I am an American, who models the Chicago & Northwestern Railway during its brief employee owned period.  The reason I chose this railway/era was because I grew up in Palatine, IL., with the C&NW's three track mainline practically running through my backyard.  ;D  So, I'm trying to recapture some fond memories of my lost youth.  ;)

I've always liked N-Gauge, my older brother; Kevin got me hooked on it at the tender age of six- thanks to his Aurora Postage Stamp trains.  I have come to learn that N-Scalers are TRUE model railroaders because they have to create so much of their layouts from scratch- compared to what is readily available to those who model HO.  (At least this is the case here in the US).  I am registered as C&NW at N-Scale.net- which is the American equivalent to this forum.  I joined here too because I thought it might be an enlightening experience to see the N-Gauge perspective from our neighbors from "across the pond."

I have been an avid model railroader all my life; either as an active participant or as an "armchair enthusiast."  Right now, I am working on a free-standing 3x6' layout.  (As soon as I learn how to use my brand new Canon digital camera; I'll post some pics of it). ;)

All the best,

Sean Colfer

Welcome.

I find I model what I like, as opposed to something specific. While mainly UK outline, I also haave Japanese, American, Canadian and European models.

I also fancy having a go a making an Australian train and one that is used in Denmark/Sweden.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

N-Train: Yes, I've read somewhere, (maybe it was here), that Australian trains have been sorely neglected by manufacturers and modelers in general; despite model railroading's popularity there.  Good luck with you endeavors.

All the best,

Sean C.

Welcome Sean nice to have another American N Gauger on the forum as its always nice to see and hear about railways from all over the world.

With regard to Aussie modellers, there is a very large range of quality locos and other stock in HO Australian outline on the market, being a small market it is quite expensive but has a huge following, N Scale has been a little slower in taking off with most N gaugers modelling American outline but there are now several manufacturers making inroads to the Aussie outline market.
Keep on Smiling
Dave.

Welcome aboard Sean, be interested to see what you are doing with your layout.  You have a couple of B&O modellers on here to keep you company   ;)
