Music wasn't too bad and the thanks for the memories sentiment was good,,,,,

one thing it made me think was all the good livery's that have been adorned to the hst over the years of it's service (not so sure about the east midlands trains, makes it look like a procession of busses)

i lovethe executive/swallow livery's but i must say the FGW (fag packet) livery and the grand central livery's have a kind of formula 1 race car look to them that suit's it well,,,,,,

this video has brought up my old urge to aquire a HST that i thought i had purged! not that thats a bad thing  :

They should built an updated version of the HST from scratch with the successful additions from all the years added "if it ain't broke why fix it"
it's already been stated that the one we already have will be riding our rails for a few years to come!!!!!
Charlie.

Brilliant

Seeing those FGW fag packets in the mix was great, nudging me even closer to a project that I've had in my head ever since I saw the n gauge model of one on Electra Graphic's website.

Any ideas what caused that catastrophic derailment (1:33 mins)?

As for the music... I can live with that  ;D

Thanks for that. That's another video downloaded for those days when I'm physically to tired to play trains.

I'm not sure but I think it was a CGI recreation of a collision where a frieght working was cleared over the fast as the hst approahed not sure what one it was and footage of mk3's being recovered afterward,,

would have been much better with the proper engine noise than the music, IMHO.

Great compilation of footage

However, despite being into metal music (among others) myself it has no place over a train video - with things like this you want to hear the sound of the powerplant, the 'shooshing' of wheels on rails, etc. Spoilt what would otherwise be an excellent video

I think the crash at 1:30 was CCTV of the Southall crash.. but I stand to be corrected..

Cheers

Some great footage here (can't comment on the sound as its off less I annoy other people in the house  :worried:).

As I have said before the Swallow livery was the best one ever used on the HST IMHO. I quite like the fag packet one, but this video appears to mainly miss my second fav livery which was the original Great Western "Merlin" livery. Farish produced a set in this livery (minus the buffet annoyingly), of which I own a power car / dummy / first class MK3 set. I never found any other MK3s and I believe they are quite rare now. One day I will try and form a complete rake in this!

Unfortunately the only trace in this livery in the video appears to be on the computer generated images at 1:30...

Scruff I think you are right.

At 3:39 ish, there is also a brief image of what I believe to be the Ladbroke Grove disaster. Both dark moments in rail history.

In an effort to end on a nice note, the HST is a huge success story and will be with us for a wee bit longer. Lets hope one set is saved at least!

I found a great HST video which has no music other than screaming valenta's !

It's short, but you could always put it on repeat...  :smiley-laughing:

Enjoy !

Working for FGW I hear the throaty growl of the MTU HSTs every day, and they do sound impressive, but I do always remember my childhood years running up and down the ECML in school holidays, and listening to the Valenta scream winding up as we pulled out of Kings Cross.

Quality machines tho, designed as a stopgap, and still in frontline service 37 years later... Beasts.

Cheers, Tim.
