Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have been offered a selection of Rivarossi locomotives and other rolling stock, and need to commit myself before I see them. I am unfamiliar with this make; I have researched online and see that they ceased trading as Rivarossi in 2004. Can anyone advise me as to whether or not they are any good? The asking price seems reasonable but I do not have the time to fiddle with 'iffy' locomotives.

Thanks,

I have a 1977 Rivarossi pacific engine. It's ok as a runner but age and condition with these will determine greatly running characteristics.

What particular models have you been offered as this will help determine what locos may have poor running qualities?

I do not know the exact composition of the 'lot', an offer from a friend of a friend, but a good price asked. In the absence of adverse comments I shall go for them.

Thanks for viewing.

Hi,

Got a SNCF 231 off ebay but needs servicing so can't comment on running but have 6 FS coaches and all are fine. Bit old but look good, not like Arnold rapido 'toys'.

Are they steam, electric, diesel, italian? Always looking.

Cheers Weave

Thanks Weave,

The 'lot' is alledgedly a variety of British and Continental, bought in the 90's for the children of a friend of a friend whilst they were posted on the Continent. The children were not interested and they are little used, the family has returned to the UK. I am normally a British GWR/BR WR of the 40's to 60's of my boyhood, this seemed a cheap opportunity to diversify.

Spares will be an issue John, I have been searching for motor brushes for many months for an American 0-6-0 shunter with no luck.  You can get some info on the motors at http://www.irwinsjournal.com/a1g/a1glocos/motors.html

Thanks for the info Lawrence.
