Hi,

On reading the post by Blackice and his venture with an Oak tree I dug out some photos of my black ice mishap.

About 20 year ago I used to work for a company in Auchterader, Perthshire and drove there daily via the Yets o' Muckart and Glendevon. One night it was dark and frosty and on going round a bend I hit some black ise. The car, a Talbot Sunbeam, did a full spin and hit a grass veree backwards. We were catapulted over the side of the road and cleared a fence, landing in a filed. My mate, who was quite excitable shouted, 'Get out it's going to explode!'

I just sat there thinking.... What the F....... ???

The car that was following us stopped and came to the rescue. The driver stated that it was the mosty spectacular thing he had ever seen. :o I had full beams on and the spin and somersault must have looked quite good. I think he was a little dissapointed there was no explsion. :(

Anyway, I had to pay to get the car hauled out of the field and towed home. Here are piccies of sad Sunbeam.

I love the registration, as I bet you were saying FFS afterwards....and a bit more! ;D

Alex

Certainly was. :-X That was my very first car. I was actually buying another Sunbeamthe next day and that was going to be the last drive in the car. Certainly a drive to remember.

Oh dear Alex these things are sent to test us mate, a real shame because the car looks really nice and a model I have never seen before.

Wont waffle on about my early prangs because it would take to long to type.

I also had a black ice experience in the Medway Towns.

A friend was driving a Ford Mondeo with me as passenger. He was only doing 10mph or less, skidded in black ice, mounted the pavement and hit a lamp post!!!

This unknown to us was witnessed by an un marked police car, I remember getting out the car, looking up only to see this red faced angry copper walking towards us with note book in hand. He had got out his car a few meters down the road and was walking towards our location, with the intention of booking us I'm sure.

Just as he was a few meters from us the policeman slipped himself over the same black ice patch we had just skidded on!! :-X
He want backside over chest and landed right on his bum!

Lucky for us this happened, as the same ice that caused our mishap had also claimed it's second victim of the day!!
Instead of laughing at him, I warily walked over to him and helped him up. By this stage he looked more embarrassed than cheesed off, and nothing else was said after he realized why we had crashed.

Luckily no one hurt, and my mates car was ok. Due to the low speed the impact wasn't great and the lamppost was an old concrete one, which survived as well.

A new bumper for my mate. A sore arse for the copper for a week or two!

Hi Dave,

It was a nice little car. Talbot was taken over by Peugot and became Peugot Talbot. Lotus did a very nice sporty version and it was also used, with some success, in rallying.

I got the chance to buy a Rally spec Ti version with twin weber 40's, full roll cage, bucket seats the lot. Only problem was the guy couldn't get it to start. :(
