???I shall be taking a rest from anything trains for a while.
Just can't get my head round what I want to do on the layouts at  the moment.

Was at the stage last night where everything nearly went  in the bin. ??? >:( :o

Have a break  from things oldman  &   look around  others  layouts for inspiration  perhaps,   sure  you'll   find  ideas to help  you carry on.     :)

Hi Oldman,

Wow, sorry to hear that. I suppose we all get like that from time to time. The easiet way is to take a step backwards before anything drastic happens.

I'm sure you'll find the right path in the end. A bit like Cookies mojo, just need a short break.

G'Day Oldman sorry to hear you have lost direction.

I was like that for about 12 months up until 6 months ago, I had me heart set on modelling British N but had some unhappy incidents with equipment, this left me hanging in limbo, I started several layouts with new ideas that never amounted to anything and felt like a bit of a twit that didn't know his own mind.

I needed a break and took 3 months off building and just dabbled around on this forum, eventually I decided to build a US outline layout and have not looked back since, I have taken a big interest in US railroads and railroad history which is a far cry from the BR steam I grew up with I was back home in England 1950s.

I think a spell away from building is a good thing and in my case there is so much to learn about a new system, I hope you make a comeback to this great hobby and that you continue to check in here at the forum when you feel up to it.
Keep on Smiling
Dave.

Cheers  guys, as Dave has suggested I am going to leave the  layouts alone for a bit.

Started with Japanese, gone British. Still have stock and track in several scales - Z,N and T gauge.  Plus narrow gauge in Z,N and OO9

Hi Mike,

I think a lot of us go through a phase where everything crowds your mind and nothing cogent seems to emerge so as others have said, just step back for a while and think about something completely different (I find Liz Hurley does it for me :P)
I also find that going to a model railway exhibition really re-energises me as it gives me lots of ideas and the thought - "Yeah - I can do that"

you cant have liz anymore, our warney has here :smiley-laughing:

A break from. It sounds like the right thing to do. There's every chnace you'll wake up sometime wanting to get your stuff out to play, but in the meantime just enjoy something else.  Life is too short to spend a day doing somethng that should be fun whenit seems like a chore.

I used to change direction if things got sluggish.
I either built some airfix kits of tanks or planes as I found I got to the end result quickly so it then gave me a lift.
The other thought is to build a small diorama.
I hope it works out.

I took a break before Christmas last year because of bad health and have only just stared to look at the layouts again.
Another week or two and I`ll probably be getting stuck into it again.
I feel the break has done me good

Similarly here. Following my cancer problems, any thought of layout building went out of the window, and still hasn't come back in. One thing I learnt in hospital, from another patient, was to buy a guitar and learn to play it (the tutor in Garage Band on a Mac helps). Less fiddly than laying/lifting/laying track, wiring, getting loco to work, etc, etc. And the end result is very cool karma inducing.
