Paypal charges

Can you still dodge the charges using the gift choice? i'm sure i've tried recently and couldn't get round it any more and had to pay.

When I've bought stuff from forum members I always pay using gift option. Not had any charges.

Personal payment owed is the way I normally do it. No charges there. A friend of mine told me last year they now take charges the gift way??

When buying I always use the gift option so the vendor doesn't cop for the charge. When selling I would expect the purchaser to use the gift option so I escape the charge.

Yes thats what i thought but last time i used it i was asked who i wanted to receive the charge maybe paypal closing another loophole as charges were only ever inured when you transferred monies  out to a bank account etc.
It's a shame there is no competition for the ebay/paypal monopoly.

As far as I am aware, there is no charge for a 'gift'.

However, if buying stuff, you are not covered by Paypal if things go wrong.

As I understand it the following applies...........if you pay by the gift method and have the funds in your account there are no charges. If on the other hand your account is empty and the funds come off your credit card then the  fees are charged and you get the option of paying them yourself or passing them on to the recipient of the 'Gift'

That's my understanding too. Sadly it's only when I sell summat that I have funds in the account
Still, who wants money tied up in a Paypal account? I don't make enough transactions to justify that.
