Class "110" Calder Valley unit: any hints on where to begin?

Morning all,
It's one of those wish list models for those like me modelling a version of Yorkshire circa 1970. I've a feeling somebody (name currently escaping me) makes various body kits that with donor chassis, can become various dmus (and emus). Can anyone remind me who this is? And if anyone has built/created/bodged a 110 (or as I used to just know them: "Birmingham RC&W bug units" - ok, bit of a mouthful), feel free to shout or point me at pictures of one.

He drew up 3d prints of classes 100, 126 and 79xxx for me.  See the Gloucester thread in this same forum for the results of his cad/3d print.

3d prints do requires some finishing but might be a suitable route for you...

In fact he might even draw up the 104 units too, which I think were pretty much identical apart from the code box on the roof?

Chris, it couldn't ring a bell more if the name was "Clapper". They're the chaps - Worsley Works, thankyou. If anyone can point me at a blog or part of the forum which deals with experience of using these kits (for class 110 or otherwise), please let me know.

As to how to make one yes you could try Worsley Works but they are pretty basic and require metal working/soldering skills. And you'd have to make all the under gubbins.

I've just seen the post from Scott and a printed body is another option.

For both the above I'd suggest a Farish 101 or 108 chassis to power it.

Lastly you could try converting an old Farish 101 (not the very early one with window inserts) using Electra vinyls
( https://electrarail.co.uk/ )and cabs and underframe bits from BHE. Electra don't list a 110 though but does have a 104 which is very similar and you could just ask Adam - he's an obliging chap.

Hi Scott,

Not being in any way conversant with the world of 3D printing (as a route to models), can I ask:

When you refer to '3D prints' do you mean "a 3D model that's resulted from the 3D process".

Does he supply the model (or body of the chosen prototype) or does he supply some kind of computerised output that you have to take away to build from somehow? I don't get whether you come away with a model, a kit or neither. Apologies, the 3D process is still a relative mystery Scott!

His images on the site look very good. Yes, the Gloucs unit is very similar to class 110.

I just need a few gals in the 3D language filling in - a jargon buster in effect..

It's basically a fully assembled plastic shell. You'll need to add window medium, seats (if required), a chassis, details parts, etc.

I can't help you with any gals...

I built a cl 104 using N-train cab ends, Poole 101 bodies, Electra vinyls, and a 'new' (6 pin dcc ready) cl 101 chassis, which needed a bit of trimming.

A 3-D print, if it can be made available, might be a slightly easier way to go, but I'm pleased with the results of my hybrid!

I'll have a look at that but your explanation is clear so many thanks indeed. For my own skill set and available time, this is sounding more achievable that the Worsley Works route. Thanks for filling in the "gaps". Bad news on the "gals"but you get nowt if you don't ask!😉

Cheers Norman. I'm currently in touch with Adam (Electra) about Mk1 catering car vinyls but that's a good shout and one I'd not actually  thought of.  Thanks also for your donor option suggestions- marvellous.

Ah yes, had forgotten the N Train cabs. They look good - better finish than the BHE castings.

Earlier this year I did a Swindon 120 using Electra vinyls etc and am part way through a Swindon 123 at the moment. I can vouch for the accuracy of the vinyls - the completed 120 looks good to me. I used a Green Max 27m chassis sourced from Plaza Japan which is really smooth. Down side as others have pointed out is the bogie axle spacing being too short, but with cosmetic sideframes glued on the closeness is disguised IMHO. You can get shorter chassis from Green Max.

So plenty of options for you.
