Since purchasing my vinyl printer, I have been getting a lot of marketing material about UV Inkjet Printers.

These machines can print onto almost any surface and are aimed at the promotional materials market. Suggested applications are golf balls, pens, mobile phone covers and even mobile phones themselves.

The potential for use on model railway vehicles is enormous and I believe there is at least one UK retailer using this for bespoke-liveried trains in 4mm. Marry this technology with 3D printing and the possibilities are endless.

A manufacturer could produce unpainted products in China and offer bespoke liveries and numbers.

With machine prices starting at around £12k, it's currently out of my price bracket but these things have a habit of getting cheaper as it gets more widespread.

Has anyone any experience of this process - is it mature enough for model railway use?

funny you should mention it Adam. We are planning to see a demo of one next week for precisely the reasons you mention.
