Flashing Amber LEDs

Hi. Can anyone suggest where I can find some 1.8/2.00 mm flashing Amber LEDs ? The idea is to fit them to my forklifts operating on my layout to add more realism.

In N scale you may need a SMD LED on a folk lift with a driver circuit under the baseboard.

However, moderator Sprintex has posted a tutorial on how to put a strobe on a small diesel shunter which may be of use.

However if the vehicle is small you may need to put the LED elsewhere and use a piece of fibre optic to get the light to the roof.

Well, it may not be necessarily more complex, Marcus. I presume the fork lift will be a stationary model on the layout. Relatively easy to put a LED on the model and have the 'guts' under the board.

Sprintex's flashing beacon is on the move and works from his DCC.

The last post with fibre optics may also be worth pursuing.

These are 2mm, but with this type, lighthouse, it's easy to file the diameter to the size you need.

That's what I did with my Class 04 shunter - small flashing LED with the dome cut off and a short length of 1mm fibre optic on top for the beacon itself. Had to sand the fibre a bit to get the light to distribute through the sides. 1mm equates to a scale 6" diameter which is about right for an amber beacon

To save  making a flasher circuit just put a normal flashing led in series with a normal  led and hide the flashing led somewhere,you wont be able to vary the speed but its much easier and cheaper than playing with 555's etc
