I have cmxn tacker cleaner and running it requires a weighty loco or a pair of lighter ones..my Dapol class 56's work best as they seem to be heavy with low gearing....now to justify a nice new pair of Class20's I reckon their combined weight and traction would be ideal as well as substituting for the 56's on my HAA rakes...in real life I seem to member Toton crews preferring a pair of 20's...any idea how much the new farish model weighs in comparison to a dapol 56 ?

Hattons have the class 20 listed at 162g and the class 56 listed as being 250g - I'm assuming this is with its packaging as it seems to be there for the benefit of making their postage costs as transparent as possible.

Never thought of using the Hattons site to determine loco weights...good idea !

I have aa dapol 58 and find it struggles on its own compared to the dapol 56.....can someone convince me a pair of 20's is justified !!!

Both the 56 and 58 do pull loads of wagons as you rightly say...when using the cmnx usually best done pushing, the 58 starts to slip while the 56 will keep going...at the moment a pair of 56 is used as they cope better together than straining one loco...just trying to justify new additions to my fleet !

It's better to push a track cleaner as that way the loco doing the pushing passes over clean rails :)

Yes I always push the track cleaner.....still no convincing evidence that a pair of Class 20 will do the job....of course I could just buy 2 anyway...BR Blue (not RF as they seem incapable of pushing themselves from the other thread running !)
