Hi everyone,

The Farish class 90 has always struck me as a decent-looking model of an attractive prototype, but please could someone tell me: is it accurate in the basic dimensions? I was planning to pick up a couple but I might reconsider if, say, it was significantly too short.

Also, have Farish ever released it in Freightliner grey livery?

Thanks

Jim
Believe me. These things always have a logical explanation usually

The 90 is basically a very sound model that captures the look and feel of the prototype locomotive very well, despite being a little basic by modern standards. The biggest drawback is having the bufferbeam and valance moulded onto the bogies but these can be remedied with a little work.

There is no version in Freightliner grey RTR but the 90 has appeared in the older Railfreight Distribution and Freightliner Green.

Bear in mind though you can get the Dapol 86 in Freightliner Grey for £50. In my opinion at least, it's an immeasurably better model than the old Farish 90 -- it has more detail, a better pantograph, working lights, NEM sockets, and is DCC ready out of the box.

That said, there's an RMWeb thread somewhere about detailing the Class 90, so if you're good with filler and etched brass, that thread might be worth reading.

Hi

You should be able to buy the Freightliner 90 for between £43 to £50 if you shop around or check out shows

I bought my one from Model Railways Direct at Warley for £43 last year

Not a great seller so usually heavily discounted

Agreed with NeMo that the 86 is a nice model - note there is also other liveries available at the Dapol outlet beyond the link including Freightliner triple grey

Thanks guys

I actually have a Freightliner grey 86 (which I got for £50, which is a ridiculous price for such a good model) and I plan to get both an 86 and a 90 in green. I want a grey 90 because I'm modelling the period when there were still a reasonable number of grey-liveried locos running around.

Also kept an eye out for the 90 in EWS

If you fit the Dapol pantograph to the 90 this really improves the look - easy job
