Very, very sad to read that Jules has died.

Very sad, especially as the crash itself was somewhat unusual :(

Mr Sprue

It is very sad indeed I was hoping that he may at least have a recovery like Schumy!

bridgiesimon

yeah but how much has Schumi recovered? news is very sketchy about how he is doing.

Jules dad was interviewed only a few days ago and commented on how he feared that should he recover but be wheelchair bound etc it would destroy him because he lived for his racing. I think he would have been a great driver had things been different, a very unfortunate accident!

best wishes

Very very tragic. The first driver to die from a race weekend accident in 20 years. :(
It's a reminder that while the sport is far safer than it was 20 years ago, racing is still dangerous. It's a risk every driver understands and accepts when they get in the cars.

What makes it even sadder is Ferrari are now saying they had him earmarked as a possible replacement for Kimi Raikonnen, maybe even as soon as 2016.

A lot of people are comparing it to Schumacher's condition, but it's not as simple as that. Schumacher suffered an "epidural haemotoma" (essentially, a blood clot). Bianchi suffered a different injury, a "diffuse axonal injury", much more widespread damage, 90% of severe DAI's never wake up. Considering Bianchi hit the mobile crane's counterweight at 132mph, his DAI was about as severe as they get.

First driver in Formula 1 to die as a result of a race accident since Senna in 1994 but unfortunately not in racing i am afraid, Dan Wheldon in 2011 for example.
Despite all the safety, motorsport is dangerous!!
