Hello,

Another question from a newbie! My track etc is coming on well and we are loving it! Im looking for another loco and came accross this, which I like the look of...

https://railsofsheffield.com/class-101-3-car-dmu-br-green-with-speed-whiskers-371-512-JJJA16973.aspx

Its a discontinued model.... should it still be a good item? The box picture states its a blue riband product.

Regards

The 101 has only been out for about a year. Mine is a BR blue one and I'm chuffed with it. The detailing is excellent and it runs really well.
Whilst it says "discontinued" effectively this is just the running number.
If you purchase it, I'm sure you'll be happy.

Hi from another Newbie,
I bought one of these in January (the 2 car version) it runs well and I was surprised to see lights at both ends.  Only trouble I had was after a derailment on my less than perfect track
the couplings appear out of line. Soved this by changing the couplings from an older coach.

Have a great weekend all,

Glad you got it :) I always wanted a speed whisker 101 but I'm more of a steamy

Hi Dave, great dmu you have got yourself there . SWMBO got me the 2 car version for Christmas and I am very pleased with it. Apparently they are reasonably easy for fitting with sound too, if you ever fancy trying that. I think I may attempt that in the future.
Seabee443 spares are available here http://www.ehattons.com/stocklist/1000398/1000589/1000661/0/Graham_Farish_N_Gauge_Spares_repairs_couplings_maintenance/prodlist.aspx (and at other suppliers) for a very reasonable price to save cannibalising your other stock.

Thank you Donkey I'll add some to my next order,  The postal cost to Australia is a bit high for small articles. However it seems a good excuse to order a new loco doesn't it

Cheers

Well the 101 DMU is excellent!.... we've run it in and are really happy with it, especially it being a 3 car version...makes it look like we've got a real train set!! A nice bonus was it having lights etc.. Im aiming to add some photos soon. Next stop will be something like a pannier tank or 3MT.... i think these are due out later this year from what ive read.

Right, Ive played with the 101 DMU enough....back to the ballasting and tunnel building!!

Kind Regards

It sure does  :smiley-laughing:. What loco are you fancying Colin?

I am hoping to get a Class 25 and class 40 loco - I love steam but my track in its current state doesn't seem to suit steam locos. I am getting derailment at points and the coupling rod springing from the wheel.   There is one set which I am currently thinking of removing and replacing with a plain curve because its a siding I never use.  A new controller would be good too but as I was bought a gauge master prodigy for my birthday I feel I ought to be looking at changing to DCC.  its difficult to know what to spend on next - I have one DCC ready DMU but no chip The pannier tank, 2-6-4T engine and Flying scotsman are not DCC ready and I am very apprehensive about sticking my soldering iron near them.

Colin

Switching to diesel won't magically fix problem track.

They are generally a bit better behaved on poor track but not vastly in most cases. Although some of the old Dapol stuff (eg the 45xx) is very sensitive to track quality.

If you've got coupling rods coming off you've got other problems.

Hi EP
if coupling rods are not being caused by the turning into the points or crossing the points , can you suggest what I look at?  its a Graham garish A3 which is troubling me. Particularly the front connection of cupeling rod.  There is a tiny spigot comes from the wheel and the rod fits over this.  It seems to happen more when I pull a rake of 4 coaches i.e. the engine is working harder.
I have the DMU which runs well and a 2nd had American diesel that I bought second hand to pull the to mix track cleaner both these are trouble free

cheers

Colin
