The last new item I purchased was the Duchess Train Pack and it seems like I may have a long wait for the next new plaything. My motive power pre orders list is as follows:-

Farish
64xx Pannier
Royal Scot (weathered)
Castle (which was 5031 Totnes when I ordered it but now seems to have morphed into 5070 Sir Daniel Gooch)

Dapol
Class 33
Battle of Britain class 'Spitfire'

DJM
Baby Deltic

RevolutioN
Poppylino

I know I'm gonna have to wait a long time for some of them but do feel the need for summat new to enjoy so, bearing in mind I run transition stuff (Pendolino excepting), what does the team think would fill the void from the most recent releases? The Dapol Grange is calling to me but I haven't read enough positive reviews to allow an escape of wonga from my wallet yet.

ScottyStitch

Not sure if you have one already, Mick, but the Farish J39 is a lovely little engine.

joe cassidy

Do you have the Farish 4F - lovely little mover ?

Best regards,

Joe

What about something completely different - like trams? Just a thought ;)
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

Dr Al

Controversial - why not get the trains you have out and really enjoy running them! We spend so much time these days waiting for, or bitching about, the latest new model that sometimes enjoying what we have seems to get left in the midst!

Cheers,
Alan

Dapol Class V SR Schools looks to be out soon, and a great model judging from the pre production photos. Available in BR late crest I think.

N-Gauge-US

I've just received a GF A2 (525 AH Peppercorn in LNER) and really enjoy it. The detailing is really nice (especially inside the cab) and it has great slow speed performance. Some others have mentioned haulage problems, so definitely check out the A2 thread first, but I like mine :)
Check out Avondale - My heritage railway themed layout :)

Sorry, folks, but maybe I should have reminded you my main layout is set in Oxfordshire and the 'small' layout is based on the Beds/Cambs border - both in the transition era and I'm a bit of a stickler for not contemplating Rule 1

Scottystitch - I have the weathered one.
Joe - I have one of the new 4Fs and one of old ones.
Dr Al - I do enjoy a good running session every now and then but would like to add to my fleet
Firefox - fear not. I'm sure one will make an appearance on Kimbolted but the Schools still seems a bit distant.
N-Gauge-US - a combination of mixed reviews and whether such a loco ever got across the Varsity (Cambridge-Oxford) line I don't know. Perchance a footie special......... :hmmm:

I am a bit lacking in WR steam hence me considering the Grange. I have (old) Panniers, 45xx, 28xx, 14xx, (old) Castle, Manor (Ixion), Ivatt tank, Ivatt 2MT, Jinty (old and new) and most of the standard classes.
I also have virtually every RTR diesel I can justify in th'area

The new(ish) Hall could also be quite tempting but the pickup issues with the Dapol pannier has put me off that model. Any further suggestions would be most welcome.

The Dapol Hall is a good model, and pre-dates the poorer quality tender pickup design used on the smaller tender of the Grange, Dapol versions of the Manor and 28xx 2-8-0 (the Hall uses proper pin points, unlike the latter locos), so I'd try and quell your fear on this one.

If anything it's the Grange that's more likely to give you trouble with pickup (mine has - oops I'm possibly back to the bitching there!).

Cheers,
Alan

The Grange I have is fine, just on the noisy side.

My Lord and members of the jury,
I would suggest to you that the defendant needs to extend his definition of 'exception' to include a running mate for his Pendolino.
Else he is contravening the locorights act by condeming said Pendolino to solitary confinement without opportunity of discourse and fraternity with likeminded companions.

I am however unqualified to suggest which companion may be suitable,
perhaps one of my learned younger friends might oblige ?

Personally I don't hold with all this modern stuff with its bizarre and garish colours (what's wrong with plain simple blue I ask?) but how about a "Thunderbird" to assist the Pendolino when it breaks down? (Quite how a stiff, jerky 60's era puppet can help out I'm not sure mind you).

Newportnobby

Objection, Your Honour!

Calling the defendant a stiff, jerky 60s era puppet must surely be some sort of contempt of court, especially as I was born in the 1950s :telloff:
