Has anyone fitted, or attempted to fit head and tail lights to a Graham Farish HST?

I love the way my Dapol one looks and would like to try and do the same thing to my GF ones.

Any ideas/help/advice gratefully received!

Hi Scooby, and welcome to the forum
I reckon one of our best modellers (Caz) will be able to help as she has fitted lights and sounds into the smallest of stock but, rest assured, you'll have an answer fairly quickly

Sorry, can't help on the Farish HST, never seen one, hopefully there is someone on here familiar with them.   :sorrysign:

This is a lighting unit I made for a Farish 170 using pre-wired micro LEDs from DCC Supplies, each soldered to a resistor.

The concept for the Farish HST would be similar, with the red wire taped/soldered to one half of the chassis block, and the black wire to the other - trial and error will determine which way round they go. Remember to use a resistor for each LED though. I only did red lights on the dummy unit and white on the powered as I always ran with the powered car leading, though this method could be used to wire white and red LEDS both ends if you're patient enough!

You just then need to drill out the lights and paint the insides of the bodies black to prevent light seeping out through the shells.

Chris, firstly great job there. Could this be done only using a DC setup? I'm assuming you're DCC powered?

Chris

When I did this I was running DC, but after making this set-up I was commissioned a 175 conversion with full directional lighting which was then wired for DCC by Douglas @ Wickness models, so it can be done for both.

All my current stock is DCC ready with RTR lighting so not attempted a home-made DCC lighting set-up yet.

How'd you get power to the LEDs? Any photos of that element of the conversion?

Only a thought, but DCC supplies do have the lighting PCB's in stock.....Are you running conventional or DCC ?
