I want to strip the black paint from my kit built L3, but I've no idea how to go about it, I don't know whether the loco was glued or soldered together as I bought it on eBay, and the paid has seen better days. It was applied quite thick, and covers up some of the boiler details, handrails, smoke box door handle, coal bunker rails and coal etc etc.
is there a way to strip the ain't that won't disturb any glue(if it was glued together, signs point to it being soldered but I'm not 100%), and is it best to give it s coat of primer first before applying the top coat of black? I'm intending to spray paint it, probably with a cheapo can of satin black from Halfords or similar...

I always use Precision Super-strip as I find it can be used on white-metal and plastic without causing any damage. It is expensive but can be reused and even filtered to prolong its useful life. If you are going to repaint in black I would use a black primer, I prefer Railmatch as I always brush paint.
