I am at home today with four children (two of my own and two cousins) aged from five to ten.

The weather (rain forecast for all day) has forced a change of plan from a trip to the park, long walk and then a picnic to a shorter walk and then the model railway is coming out and out!

I already have one very enthusiastic five year old and I might end up with more converts yet!

That's it, try to convince yourself that's a good thing :D

Strangely, managing four kids is easier than two, they seem to pair up and occupy themselves!

All is very quiet at the moment...should I be suspicious?

Very much so.
When I was a child my Mum says I used to make mud pies but she never knew where I got the water from :-[

Hope you have fun!  I think all children love watching a train set/layout.

My eldest (3 years old) loves railways and Thomas.  Sadly the other morning he came up to me and said "Daddy, the train is broken".  I said to him "Don't worry I'll fix it.  Where is it?"  He point didn't point to the lounge or his bedroom, but to the porch door.  I took a gulp, as the night before I'd placed my £289 Class 442 in my work bag ready to make some minor repairs to the bogies. :'(

Thankfully, only the roof had popped off and a bent 3rd rail pick up shoe.  How he found it I don't know?!?!

To all posts above, been there, done that (smug laugh). Stick with it folks, my daughters are in their twenties, but got me a Midland Pullman for Christmas. If you persevere, you can condition 'em!  ;D

Just saw your post, Bart. I love the weather here in NSW at Easter. Best time of year, I reckon.
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

For some reason, Nottinghamshire schools closed a fortnight before Easter (so they went back today), but Derbyshire closed a week before and go back next week. Net result (to my cost!), was a week of boredom, as most places to go were not running holiday activities, followed by a week of rushing around to "get some in". This week, there are loads of activities in Derbyshire, but the grandkids are back at school. Crackers.
