Just catching up with the recent Great Continental Railway Journeys and saw the Hamburg episode. Michael Portillo hand-painted a figure of himself (and very well at that), to be placed on Hamburg Station in the huge railway layout at Minatur Wonderland. There's a pretty good five minute intro video available on the website, with some great little vignettes:

Really enjoyed this weeks episodes - so far. Mainly because they are lines that I know (North Downs, Southampton, etc) and even Wokingham station where I have spent many an hour shivering in the cold . The station has been completely remodelled since the episode so the 'hell hole' days are now over

The Newbury and Bristol ones have had more meaning for me. Newbury is where I finished my first long-distance cycling trip in 2012, and Bristol is 'just up the road' from me and somewhere I considered moving to last year.
