DVD credits

I have spent most of the day erecting a couple of cantilever umbrellas to keep the sun off of the stoop (patio in European) and feeling quite stiff and tired, decided that I will watch a dvd movie.

(Not any great blockbuster, an old quiet comedy with Sam Neill called "The Dish" about the first manned moon landing.)

There were seven (Yes 7) different organisations with credits before the film started saying they were the ones bringing the film to our screens. I  need to have some idea of the cast and the director but the rest is garbage and very annoying. What a waste of time, especially since they disable skipping over it all.

Rant over. I'll watch the film, get lost in nostalgia and turn it off before the whole lot is repeated at the end !

We have a similar thing on UK TV whereby, when a programme/film ends and the cast list appears, the broadcaster concerned moves that cast list etc into a tiny area of the TV screen while they advertise what's on next. Needless to say you are unable to read the cast/crew of what you have just watched

I enjoyed watching that film, great Australian humour.  I might look it out and watch it again

That niggles me as well, especially if you are wanting to catch the name of an actor or actress 

What does annoy me more is when the credits fly up the screen at Mach 2

Really miss the roaring lion and gong basher - a staple of the Saturday morning rush at the Guildford Odeon. Modern film opening credits are pants in comparison.

Recently on the ABC a film producer was asked about the long list of credits these days.  The answer was, if individuals or organisations are not credited then monies or distribution is not forthcoming.

However, I would agree with you that it is annoying.

A bit of a pain, I just want to know the actors and director, not interested in who did the mobile catering or who was
the special assistant to Mr Spielberg or who parked his car.

Usually go to Wiki to find the cast if the credits are flying past at the speed of sound.

ps to Kipper in "Carry on up the Khyber" someone bashes a gong and Kenneth Williams calls it Rank stupidity.....

  Oh deary deary me. Glad you all like the Dish movie, though. It's a nice little piece of Australian cinema. And don't wory, NPN - they do that shrinking bit here too - not that I watch TV much these days.

The technical term is "squeezing the credits", which is just what I'd do to the Program Dirctors who do it.
