Mk3 coach numbers - different or same?

I am going to buy some GNER mk3 coaches. They have different types of the same coach. I.e the Graham Farish item number ends with an A, B, C, D etc. I understand that each item number is a coach which has a different number printed of the coach door. But the coach itself is the same other than that.

So my question is it preferable to have all the same or different? Should I buy say 4 of -A or 1 of -A, -B, -C and -D.

The HST sets are made up four basic types of coach

TS - second class (standing room only)
TF - first class (empty)
TGS - like the second class but one end has a space for the guard (coach A in most liveries)
Catering vehicle of some kind (sold out of sandwiches)

The catering vehicles vary a lot by period and company, which is a problem with the Dapol ones.

Strictly speaking nowdays some of them are TS with disabled facilities (which look a bit different)

So for some length of train you basically want

TGS TS (* a few) catering TF (* a few)

I understand the order/ configuration... I mean the coach numbers within 2nd class...

Here are the Graham Farish item numbers if it helps to clarify what I am asking.

These are all TS coaches. The A B C etc is added for each new batch that changes the number and doesn't except by accident match a coahc label.


The 'A' labelled TGS coach is 374-403, 374-403A

Ideally you would want a rake of 8 different ones - there are no duplicates in a prototypical rake.
