So im doing final checks on the layout, had to remove ballast and a piece of track AGAIN! then after god knows how much track cleaning my steamers decide to noy run smooth at all but all diesels will!

WHY?!

They have all had their wheels cleaned and all ran smoothly before now they wont! On the verge of smashing up moorside!

Put it this way, out of 15/16 chipped locos, only the 4 diesels work properly and the steamers, all 10 of them just dont want to run properly at all

It will depend upon the locomotive but the older locomotives have rigid frames and are quite sensitive to proper track laying. The early tender locos had tender pickups as well which made them as good as the diesels, but that feature was discontinued even before Bachmann, who failed to bring it back.

The modern steam locos have better pick up arrangements on the whole, while the union mills models solve the problem the other way - by being heavy
