Hey all,

Does anybody know what the Dapol VTG hood wagons could be run with (locos and other stock)?

Specifically, could I legitimately (putting rule 1 aside) run them in the same rake as some BAA wagons?

I ask this as at TINGS I noticed quite a surplus of the VTG hoods, and Dapol themselves were doing 4 for £50.00.

I have tried Google but get mainly pictures of the models!

If they are BAA's towards the rear of the train (and to me it looks like they are)...they yes  :D

And as an added bonus, gives me prototypical excuse to run my Coal-Sector 56 with the rake (won't stop me hankering for a new tool 37 though  >:D)

Thanks for the rapid response

Don't think I've see them running with BAAs through newport nowdays. They do run with other steel carriers though. Search for "tiphook" instead - they've not had VTG branding for a long long time.

My general advice for steel carriers and steel trains is look at some youtube footage of Newport.

I have 4 of these very nice VTG telescopic hood wagons.

I run them with 4 SPA and 3 BDA wagons (these are all the steel carrying wagons I currently own).

Usual motive power on my layout for this steel train is a blue class 47, railfreight grey 56 or triple grey 60 (sometimes a blue 37 gets used as well).

I think this is prototypical,  but this is just going on childhood memory of the 80s / early 90s and the few pictures I've seen in magazines such as Traction.
