Found this from Pete Waterman's video today, incredible detail over a very large model.
2.5 metres long in OO scale

More details here: USS Sangamon in 1/72 scale

I found an American scale N gauge model of a Ww2 Liberty ship. It scaled out at about 38" for a model of a 500 feet or so ship in reality. I didn't get it mainly because of cost, but I think that something this size would overwhelm most N gauge layouts.

There was a H0 model of French ferry port where the ferry formed the backscene. If I remember correctly there is a card model of a cross channel ferry in about 1/100 scale which could have been the one used in the model.

Heller make a car ferry in 1/200 which is 65cm long, so about the length of a 4/5 car passenger train.

I'll settle for the Windermere Steamers I'm designing for the back of the clubs Lakeside layout - those are quite big enough at just under a foot long.
