Sometimes the computers conspire against us - the call centre staff aren't doing it deliberately. I recently took over a week, four phone calls and several visits to a website to pay for my car insurance.

Just to counter that, there's also been a saying for many years..........

To err is human. To really  things up requires a computer

He is going to need a month just to recover from the farce of booking tickets

On a few occasions, I have been told by a human, "apologies Sir, it was a computer error", I reply, "who programmes the computer?"

Who programs the computer? A software engineer who will have done the best they can given limited time and cash. Sadly it's impossible to test for every eventuality - if you were to attempt to you'd be there forever.

It's also impossible to allow for hardware failures such as servers failing or shutting themselves down to protect the data they hold due air-con failing in last week's hot weather.

It could be worse - how do you think the call centre operator feels having to deal with poor systems seven hours a day, five days a week?
