Even though I've got quite a few of those venerable Peco vans, doesn't it look crap compared to the other two!

I'd be going with them. I've always loved Toads any way. I haven't yet acquired one of those bogie Queen vans, but it's on my wish list.

Definitely the top two, IMHO.
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

Either the Toad or the BR Standard would be more common.

BR(S) didn't like their bogie brake-vans (Queen Mary) being lost to the other regions so they tended to keep tight hold of them. Similarly, the exGWR were rare on other regions, although in this case it was because the other regions preferred having two verandahs.

The colour indicated if the van was fitted with a automatic train brake (or at least through piped with a brake valve/setter). Grey ones didn't have the vac' pipe, brown ones did. Grey ones would be seen on rakes of unfitted wagons (or partially fitted trains). Brown ones would more typically be found in a train consisting of similarly coloured wagons.

The Peco one is showing its age, but it's a lot easier to find in the shops than the Farish equivalent. Minitrix also did a version that's on a par with the Peco one. Avoid the Lima one - it was measured using an elastic tape measure and only looks good with the Tomix Thomas the Tank engine range.

@Phoenix
As Steven say above, if you follow the basic rule of 'Grey = unfitted, Bauxite = fitted' you shouldn't go wrong.
BTW - me recommending the Ivatt 2MT has absolutely nothing to do with 41222 of that class being one of the mainstays of the real NewportNobby

Hi All,

Ah Mick ..... I knew there must be an ulterior motive in recommending the Ivatt  :D ;) :D

I will investigate it

And thanks George for all your help ...... with everything  :D  :D  :D

Also Steven and John, your info has really been useful in planning not just what to get but how it all goes together

Hi All,

Many thanks to everyone for their help here  :thankyousign:

The green 64X arrived Thursday, looks great with the B set coaches, and now I have a test track to run it on, I've been watching it go round, and it runs beautifully  :D  :D

I have also bought some brake vans, which are being weathered by TMC. The Black 3MT has been running on my test track with short trains, and that runs beautifully as well  :D  :D

I hope to get some videos together over the next few days

All best wishes

Kevin

:beers:
