Well I paid a visit to Chester Cathedral today to see Pete Waterman's layout. And very nice it is too.  I must admit I spent more time round the back watching how they did the movements, very interesting.  Even managed to have a few words with the man himself, very pleasant and down to earth.  I asked what control system he was using and he said he was using an ancient Zeemo (Zimo??) DCC system, and it all worked without fault while I was there.  Worth the visit!
Cheers, Trev.

Looks like another reason visit to Chester in the next few weeks. For those who are interested and not watched the video, on display everyday in the Cathedral and be there until mid September.

I took swmbo to Chester on Wednesday, she is accusing me of tricking her into going. She is saying I only wanted to go to see the railway, you can't win. We had a nice day, she loved the cathedral and we had a walk round the city. To be honest I was a bit disappointed with the railway, imagine too how much could have built in n -gauge.

Zimo, of decoder fame, also make a VERY expensive DCC system.

On the Hornby video Pete Waterman says they will be at Milton Keynes, then the layout will either be sold or dismantled.

Probably more interesting than the layout, which looks pretty boring to me

To be honest that's what I thought too but it is probably more impressive in the flesh. I did watch it after looking at videos of Czech modular layouts which seemed far more interesting!

It does also seem to me to reinforce the idea that if you want to model full-length trains then you need a cathedral in which to do it.

It's very hard to gauge scale looking at layouts online but I was far more taken with Dallam Sidings in the Virtual Forum.

Perhaps you did, the one I spoke to was at Warley and spoke to me in a tone I didn't appreciate, I remember walking away thinking what a total A_hole.

I always address people in a friendly manner and always "Talk to others how I want to be spoken to" On that particular day it didn't work so I guess he must have been stressed out or something!
