Postal rates

Hi,

I sent off my NGS competition entries today. Is I have to include return postage I asked the guy behind the counter what the new rates would be for the postage. After a few minutes he gave up as it appeared to be cheaper. In the end I included a £5 cheque to cover the return postage.

When I got home I looked out the new postage charges I have in my van. Below is a comparison with the old and new charges. Old charges on left new ones on right. ie 46/60 old/new.

Notice that Packets are now a flat rate from 0-750g and anything between 500-750g is now cheaper than the old price. This is what the post office guy couldn'e figure out.

Recorded is up from 77p to 95p.

So expect Ebay postage to go higher.

Thanks for this and finding some positives in these new prices. Combining some of the prices bands will make it easier to calculate the postage and also reduce the issues with packaging when the weight of the item is close to the top limit of a band.

What's to figure out? This particular weight bracket is cheaper. Don't fight it.
Overall we'll be spending alot more on postage - athough, usefully, many of the items I buy and sell on eBay fall into this weight bracket. 

We will be sending ZERO paper Christmas cards this year, so Auntie Hilda is gonna have to get herself online. Oh yeah.

Certainly we send very few now. Most of the family and friends have discovered email, although some of them are having absolutely nothing to do with this idea that books can be electronic, face-ache or other horrors.

Too right an' all !! 

I am no Luddite, nor am I anywhere near approaching pension-age yet, but I refuse to substitute a good tactile paper book with a plastic-cased LCD screen, or for that matter replace a large collection of CDs with stored files of 1s and 0s that one way or another will be lost no matter how many places they are backed up in!

As for Face-ache well, waste of cyberspace in my opinion

Yep Facebook, what a ridiculous concept being able to stay in contact with my relatives abroad on a day to day basis sharing pictures etc. at a glance of a page rather than a letter every couple of months or bouncing boring emails back and forth.  I can't see that ever catching on.
