He embodied all that is good in the human race. Terrible for his family and friends. But I hope they take some comfort in the knowledge that he was greatly loved and respected by the nation. It is a great shame that we will not be able to show our sorrow publicly.

RIP Capt Tom

We must thank him for his service to the nation and for his life. And remember him for his achievements. Thoughts and condolences to his family.

As my wife has just said, the irony is that he would have remained unknown had it not been for the coronavirus that eventually killed him. At least he would have died knowing that he had made a difference to many people's lives.

RIP.

Very sad, but quite a way to go out. RIP.

at a time when most so called 'celebrities' are either footballers with not much talent or fat birds on so called 'reality' TV shows,

what a real pleasure it was to see someone who really deserved the title, both for his attitude and his achievements, throughout his long life, and not five minutes of so called fame.

his passing marks the loss of a real gentleman, and a great human being.

a massive loss to us all .

Very sad, but not unexpected. He accomplished a lot in a long life.

At least he had an N gauge model named after him?

He certainly packed a lot into that last year of his! Very sad to hear of his passing, but what an amazing life! Achieved more in 2020 than the vast majority of people do in their lives. Deserving of a state funeral but I assume that won't be possible in the current environment.
Still planning a layout...

This petition for a full state military funeral was started by a GM Police officer. I don't know if such a funeral is the wish of Capt Tom's family or if they want a private family service. It probably won't be possible anyway, so signing the petition might be the best we can do as a nation to show how much respect there is for the man. We can also show in a more meaningful way by supporting the charities he supported.

The following has been 'lifted' from the Telegraph & Argus' website. I am guessing there is no copyright problem as it is in the public domain -

"Respect: Locomotive named after Captain Sir Tom Moore used to haul freight over Settle-Carlisle line today

The Captain Sir Tom Moore locomotive hauls freight over the Settle-Carlisle line in mark of respect following his death
(picture)

AS a mark of respect GB Railfreight today headed their long distance freight train over the Settle-Carlisle line with Class 66 locomotive, Captain Sir Tom Moore this afternoon following news of his death yesterday.

The trainload of china clay travels the route regularly from Antwerp, in Belgium, to Irvine, in Scotland - via the Channel Tunnel.

David.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.
If a friend seems distant, catch up with them.
