Reading some recent posts about early GF Coaches, I was reminded of this one which I acquired at the Hamilton (NZ) Model Train show a couple of years ago. I bought it for $10 out of curiosity to find out what it was.
I have had problems attaching the photo but hope it has worked.
It appears to be an early GF Suburban Coach which has been converted by cutting off the sides, replacing them with clear plastic, and sticking on an overlay.
Does anyone know who made these overlays?

Bealman

Ooooh, that is an early coach.... curly couplings!

No idea about the overlays, are you thinking of making more?

The roof could do with a dusting  ;)

Not wanting to make more overlays, just curious.
Yes, it does have the curly couplings, and plastic wheels, not sure if the latter are original.
Point taken re the dust.
Co-incidentally I have been cleaning and dusting the layout and stock this weekend!

Not sure, but could be Beaver printed sides. They also came as complete kits.
N Gauge Society held some sides, and Etched Pixels/Ultima may still have some.

They were for both 57' and 63' versions of the Mk1 non-corridors.

Looking at the second photo in your gallery, it looks like the Ultima cast metal ends rather than the end of a Farish coach and the roof profile is not Farish.

So I'd agree with Martyn, that it's Ultima (ex Beaver) origins, but I suspect that only from the solebar downwards is Farish and everything above has been replaced...

Thanks very much for the replies.
I had another close look, and I think PLD is correct and the ends are cast and have been applied separately.
I hadn't noticed that until now.
It's not appropriate really to run on my BR "Blue Period" layout but maybe it has survived in Departmental use, though it would either be even more faded than it is now or repainted, I guess, in reality.
