Hi all, can anyone help please ?  I bought a knackered farish ( china) 37 chassis so i can stick a colas 37 body on top and double head without the phaff of adding an 11th train to my cheap beachmann dcc controller,

I took out the long motor thingy but cant for the life of me work out how to degear the bogies
without destroying them,

Any handy hints would be very welcome   thanks guys  Rob

You could just unclip the bogie frames, unlip all the wheels sets, pull one wheel off each axel and slide the gears off, put the wheels back on the frame, reclip the bogie frame and that should do the job, no special tools required.

There will be other ways to do the same so wait till those with more experience in this things post soon.

This may not apply to your particular model as I believe there were several versions of the chassis. On mine I removed the body, just lift off the chassis, there are four plastic clips, remove one each end and the bogies will lift out of the chassis block. On the sides of the bogies you will see the pins that hold the gear train in position, push these out and remove the gears, 3 per bogie. When removing the pins, note that they are slightly larger one end, try each end and see which is the easiest to push out.

I think @N_GaugeModeller 's suggestion is probably the easiest, as in remove the final axle gears from the wheelsets to disconnect the geartrain and remove any drag.  Use a proper worm/gear puller tool to remove wheels from axles.  It'll be like doing a split gear replacement without actually fitting anything back on the axle.  Keep the gears just in case another model gets a split  :)

Probably should also remove the wheel wiper pickups (assuming this model has that style of pickup)
