QuoteVeteran stage and film actor Sir Ian Holm, who played Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings films, has died at the age of 88.

He not only played Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, but also Frodo Baggins in the brilliant BBC Radio dramatisation of Lord of the Rings.

Other well-known roles that he performed so admirably included the android science officer Ash in Alien, Dr Willis in The Madness of King George and  the professional coach in Chariots of Fire, along with many stage performances.

RIP Sir Ian and thanks for the wonderful acting.

Even Tarzan will be sad to lose Capitaine Phillippe d'Arnot. RIP Ian Holm.
