Modelling Realistic Water

Another thing to remember is that yacht varnish is quite yellow and to adjust the other colours you are using to get the desired result.

I usually do a bit of experimenting on offcuts before doing the final water on the layout.

I use Mod Podge gloss (which is basically a clear acrylic varnish cum adhesive used in decoupage) as a top coat over my toilet paper water, it's not quite as glossy as yacht varnish but it is safe to use with the styrofoam I use for scenery.

Thank you everybody who have given me tips and advice. I did see over the weekend a video on YouTube that explained the use of PVA applied over the surface of paint that represents the water colour. As the PVA dries clear it gave the necessary water reflection. Has anyone heard of this method or has experience of what the water looked like when finished?
