Not being an expert on these matters, would one of these fit onto the chassis of a Dapol 156?

Not easily. The Dapol 156 has the frame and lower bodywork moulded on, wheras the Farish 170/171 chassis is quite narrow and fits up inside the body.

You would need to do some serious butchery on the 156 to make it fit.
