So, I have been attempting to install flicker free coach lighting to my coaches.
The theory works, but the problem is the capacitor.
The larger one shown is 16v 1000mf.....it's just not powerful enough to maintain any length of time to sustain flicker free....
But to increase the capacitance means the physical size of the capacitor increases and you can't fit it in the coach!
Any suggestions?

As for the small capacitor it's 16v 330mf......forget it!!!!

Thanks for looking...

Probably worth looking at computer memory back-up capacitors. I used these on a test bed for a rechargeable motorised 1/76 bus using the capacitor as a battery.

The  .33 farad one here is 11.5mm diameter x 5.5mm plus connections. Need to reduce your supply voltage and polarity to match the requirements of the capacitor.

A fellow modeller on another forum indicates it's my leds that are the problem.....these are 5050 leds...about 40ma each......
Too much current draw....

Depends on how bright you want the lights to be. Increasing the series resistor will reduce the current draw to a more manageable level. If you use that 1k resistor in your photo, that may help.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

I'm using the resistor to dim the lighting as they're too bright without it.
But the leds are drawing in excess of 350ma in total that would need a huge capacitor!
0603 leds recommended...20ma each max
