I'm looking to model a wargames unit equipped with Pigs and Flying Pigs as used in Northern Ireland during the troubles.
What I've not been able to find out is if a unit would be equipped with all Flying Pigs, or would it be mainly equipped with the normal Pig, and say one Flying Pig per platoon ?
Hoping that amongst our members there may be someone who served in a unit equipped with these, and be able to answer the question.
As I understand it the Pigs (Humber 1 ton apc) replaced the Saracen, which was considered too 'aggressive' for patrols.
the Flying Pig was the mk.2 Humber as far as I know, which was equipped with fold out 'wings' which made it wide enough to block an average road, and provide cover for troops.
I'm using the resin models from Sgts Mess, which are the best resin moulds I can remember seeing, no air holes in the ones I've got so far, which come with white metal wheels and the bullbars.
many thanks in advance for any info anyone may be able to give.
regards
alan
