I am reducing my collection and have decided to start by selling a rake of 8 silver National Benzole 14t wagons, part number 373-650A which are all boxed and in virtually new condition. I have no idea what a fair price would be though as there are no completed listings - similar wagons are Buy It Now on ebay for about £20 and this seems a little steep!
Please could anyone shed any light on this please?
Thanks in advance

When I sell anything on ebay I decide the minimum I'm prepared to take for it, or, if you like the point at which I'd rather keep it, then set that as the minimum bid, and let it find it's own level. After all, anything is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay. I've often been pleasantly surprised at the results. I use prices achieved by other sellers as a guide but note I say "sellers". There are always plenty of overpriced buy it now items, but if you watch for a while and look deeper into it you find that the "seller" has been listing and relisting it for ages and yet to sell it. Any body who's looked for parts for early Land-Rovers will know what I mean.

I've seen prices of £12.50 each and £50 for four. That's more likely to be an achievable price.
You wont have many people looking for eight, though. I'd sell two identical lots of four, or four lots of two. More bother as a seller, but more likely to sell.

You could try listing one with a BIN price of £whatever-you're-happy-with-plus-a-bit i.e.: £20. If it sells, then that's your valuation for the rest. If it doesn't sell, drop the price by a quid or two... rinse and repeat. :beers:

I agree with Bob about splitting the listing. A boxed item is always a small parcel, which means £4 postage. I'll never buy a single wagon with £4 postage, but you'll erode your profit if you offer free postage. Pairs at £40, or four for £70 (say) may be more realistic, and net you more than selling each at £20 post free.

Rails have a lot of Farish wagons on their ebay shop, but not the tank wagon in question. The prices go from £6ish upwards, depending on age/condition.

Why not advertise them on the Nporium?

Thanks  for the replies everyone, when I get the boxes out of the attic I think I'll put them up at £12 each on the nporium and offer a bulk buy discount!

If it helps, Googling "Hattons Farish 373-650A" pulled up some "pre-owned like new" hits, a few boxes pictured have labels showing the prices and dates but my screen's too small to read most of them clearly.

Also, not quite the same, but two ex-set (370-090 North Eastern Freight?) weathered ones with different barrel numbers in containers on eBay went for £10.50 each on the 6th Dec:
