Anyway,I've now got a spare Windows computer that I can probably use for working something on my layout.

That will come in handy in the summer...

...for propping the door open!  ;D

I have a very simple argument for the cost of a Mac. Every single Mac I've bought (going wayy back) has paid for itself, some of them many many times over. I couldn't say that for any of the PC boxes I've bought or built and I eventually switched to using Parallels based virtual PC setups on my Mac for my Xbox development as it was more reliable.

Nothing wrong with the desktop PCs its the OS that causes the problem, I have used most Microsoft Windows OS since Win95 and to me the best was XP.

I got sick to death of defrags, anti this and anti that almost to the point of screaming so 4 years ago I made the switch to a Linux OS, the only way a Windows PC will grace my desk again is if I buy a second hand unit and that will only be for a few minutes while I load Linux onto it.

Nice to see a few happy Mac users on the forum

I have to admit to a tendency to be almost enthusiastic about Apple stuff

I used to get really annoyed with Apple users that would go on and on about their Mac whenever I mentioned even the tiniest problem with my Windows PC and if I said something good about a Windows feature then they would used to come up with something they reckoned was 10 times better on the Mac.

Now I have Macs, I realise that I have a tendency to be almost enthusiastic too. I think it is because I am now free of the years of pain that I had with PCs (at work and home) and have found something that works, is easy to use, all the devices work seamlessly and they are reliable (sorry, getting almost enthusiastic again!). I think the iCloud is brilliant, particularly as it is free - all of the calendars, contacts on Apple kit are automatically synched and it is great for working on documents across multiple devices. The days of forgetting which USB memory stick I used to move data from PC to laptop are almost over (sorry, almost enthusiastic again!).
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

! was using Windows 7 from it's partition yesterday to install the needed antispyware and antivirus software in it.

A lot of waiting about while updates for this, security updates for that were installed and then the restarts required. When all that was over I thought I might use Windoze  sometimes as a PC rather than just when I want to run Windows specific software.
However,Windows decided to crash and restart so the only time I'll go there now is when I need to.

Seems to me that for all the hype, Windows has gone downhill since XP and I think a lot of the Windows market share is due to all new PCs and laptops having it preinstalled along with things like that crappy Norton Utilities which needs a special uninstaller downloading to get rid of it properly.

I didn't realise what a poor OS windows is until I started using a Mac.I see that some software will run on both a Mac and Windows, perhaps more developers will go down that route in future.

I'll bet Suzy Perry uses a Mac  ;D

Allan.
I'm not a complete idiot..some bits are missing.

And don't forget... The stuff looks sexy too!

I used to work in an office with various OS's Windows, MacOS, Irix (SGI's Unix based OS) as the software we used was very diverse and spread across different platforms. My everyday machine was a £60k Silicon Graphics Octane with a very expensive 4mb video upgrade!

The SGI kit we had never crashed!
