Hi All,

I'm now the proud owner of a DP1 thanks to my wife buying me it as a birthday gift. (Posted here - http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=19004.0)

Lucky me!  :claphappy:

Big question - what stock should I run it with? Any suggestions?

Gavin.

Almost exclusively it'd have been Maroon Mk1's, mostly BR1 bogies but maybe Commonwealth bogies in later years.

Thanks Guys,

Great answers. :)

I found this on youtube:

Deltic diesel prototype DP1 , brief clip in colour

Looks like it's running there with Maroon Mk1's. Try as I might I couldn't find it pulling Blue/Grey Pullman's. Sorry Bart!  :P

I've got some old contemporary (1950s) magazines showing it pulling crimson/cream ex-LMS (Stanier/Porthole) stock. It was actually used from 1955, just before BR maroon livery was introduced (1956), extending the livery and stock possibilities.

I like a combination of crimson/cream and maroon stock.  Here's a photo of mine from when my layout was at an early stage!

I recall reading that the Merseyside Express was mostly BR Mk1 coaches but with a portion that was detached and usually consisted of Stanier designed vehicles.

A quick Google search also turned up a photo of DP1 on a train where the first vehicle is a maroon Gresley brake coach trailed by what look like Mk1s with a mix of maroon and crimson/cream.

You're not short of choices for ready to run coaches.

Personally I think it's looks might fine on a rake of Farish Blood & Custard Staniers

In reality a lot depended on where it was running.  Out of Kings Cross on the Eastern region, for example, would often see Gresleys (made by Dapol in N) behind it.

Deltic was withdrawn in 1961 (and transfered to the Science Museum in 1964). BR Blue didn't appear until 1964 (the XP64 train), and wasn't roled out in full until '66.

I don't think Deltic has haulled a train since being preserved and so wouldn't have been seen at the head of a rake of blue/grey coaches (or anything newer than a Mk1). That said, it does look good hauling a train of I/C Mk3s....

Happy modelling.

Interesting video (although IMHO the more interesting bit is the train at the start going the other way)
