Hello all,

My father-in-law bought me the lovely Farish 'Peak', BR blue number D186, for Christmas -- and good, quiet runner it is too. Now, it comes with a bag of detailing bits.

The bufferbeam pipes seem a bit generic, and don't really match any of the photos of Class 46s I can find in my books or online. So far as I can tell, there's one U-shaped multiple unit cable that loops under the left-hand side buffer, and two smaller pipes, which I'm assuming are vacuum and air brake pipes respectively (so I'll add silver and red tips to these).

There's also a pair of blue wedge shaped pieces that seem to slip into a pair of recesses on the roof. Presumably some 'Peaks' had these recesses blocked off and some didn't. But I can't see a pattern. Does anyone know what's the deal here?

Cheers, NeMo

I tend to go to Martin Loader's Railway pictures for details. There are a couple of roof top pictures of BR Blue units that might be helpful. While it doesn't say why, the numbers might give you further direction as to the reason for the modification.

Apologises if you've already seen these.

I've just been doing some detailing on my new 46.
I even broke out the paint and added some orange to the jumpers.
The other pipes foul the coupling (unless I'm missing something) so I'm just going to leave them orf.

If you bend them slightly so they don't sit quite so proud of the bufferbeam you can fit them with the coupling in place - worked for me.

Class 46s and all the peaks didn't have multi working in blue livery.

Exactly what I was going to say, use rule one as it makes the buffer beam look a bit more interesting  :)

I had a read, and apparently they were just 'unplugged' rather than actually removed. In my parallel universe, for some reason they didn't remove them when she was repainted in blue... has anyone got a straw I can clutch at?  :P

I think the jumper cables that come with the peaks are ETH cables, only suitable for class 45/1

I've not got one but they could very well be, rule 1 could be stretched to an ETH 46 I suppose.
